Must-Visit Cat Cafés for a Purrfect Day Out

Cat Cafés You Must Visit

Cat cafés are a wonderful combination of great company, cozy environments, and of course, feline friends. Here are five outstanding cat cafés that provide both memorable experiences and the highest standards of care for their cats.

Maison de Moggy – Edinburgh, Scotland

Maison de Moggy, Scotland’s first cat café, has captured the hearts of cat lovers since it opened its doors. Located in the heart of Edinburgh, the café is home to a delightful variety of feline residents. The cats roam freely around the beautifully designed space, which is filled with soft lighting, cozy corners, and comfortable furniture for both humans and cats to enjoy.

Maison de Moggy is known not only for its ambiance but for the exceptional care given to its resident cats. Each cat is treated as part of the family, with regular vet checks and ample space to play, rest, and socialize. The café emphasizes a stress-free environment, ensuring that the cats’ well-being is always a priority. This commitment to care is a major reason for its glowing reputation and high visitor ratings.

Maison de Moggy holds a special place in our hearts at Kitten Kaboodle. It’s where we first met the delightful, beautiful and cheeky Elodie Chauve, who inspired our journey into the world of Sphynx cats. Sadly, Elodie passed away on 31st August 2023, making her memory even more poignant for us. Her grace and charm left a lasting impact, and it was after meeting her that we adopted our own Sphynx, and founded Kitten Kaboodle in his honor.

Guests can book time slots to spend with the cats, and while you’re there, you can enjoy tea, coffee, or cake sourced from local Edinburgh bakeries. The café’s unique breed selection also gives visitors the opportunity to interact with cats they might not normally encounter. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, Maison de Moggy offers a tranquil experience where both humans and cats feel right at home.

Cats Playing Fetch? You Bet They Can!

Pic by Hanna, Pexels It's a common misconception that fetch is a game exclusively for our canine companions. But here at Kitten Kaboodle, we know better! Any cat lover who's spent time with these fascinating felines will tell you: many cats love a good game of fetch. And if you haven't experienced this joy yet, you're in for a treat! The Science Behind the Fun A recent study published in the journal Animal Cognition (Saito et al., 2023) revealed some surprising findings. It turns out that over 41% of cats engage in fetch-like behaviour! This dispels the myth that cats are solely solitary creatures, uninterested in interactive play with their humans. For some cats, it's the thrill of the chase. They love the anticipation of watching their favourite toy sail ...

Respect Your Cat Day

Apparently, on March 28th 1384, King Richard II issued a royal decree banning the eating of cats in England. Whether the edict was real or just a historical whisper passed down over time, the fact that it needed saying at all is mind-blowing. I’ll be honest—when I first heard that people used to eat cats, I was completely horrified! 😱 The idea that, once upon a time, cats weren’t respected or even seen as pets, but as food, is awful.  While it’s difficult to know how widespread cat consumption really was in medieval Europe, there are scattered historical records suggesting that in times of famine or poverty, cats (and dogs) were sadly sometimes eaten. Pic: Pixabay But maybe that’s exactly why March 28th  became Respect Your Cat Day —a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come in our relationship with these incredible creatures… and how much they deserve our care, protection, and respect. So What Is Respect Your Cat Day? Pic: Maxima This isn’t just a day for giving...
